a month ago.

it started out as a ball of glowing silver

hammered flat

and

filed around the edges.

every time i'd return to my bench

i'd take it into my hands

and ponder...

pain has been an issue as of late

so, my pondering has been left short.

but ~

finally

i managed to finish the piece.

i wrapped the old worn metal piece

around my ring mandrel

then, continued to play...

a "relic" was born.

yesterday

i had the time to play with the brass

i rarely use

fell in

l-o-v-e

with this finished piece.

that does metalwork...

this person has a photo in a listing

where she shows her cat sitting in her

"sweeps dust drawer"

a boat-load of metal dust!

comments on it like it's cute!

seeing this

made my heart sink

made me angry!

how could someone NOT know

this is harmful to their pet!?!

i sent this person a convo

asking them to

"please rethink letting their beautiful cat do this"!

went on to say

"Imagine,

if you licked your hands

after working with your metal

how that would harm you!"

i just don't get it.

Here are the finished frames.

made from new 'reclaimed' poplar wood

from jamies job-site.

the patina on the Lg & Sm frames

was created with

one stain

(the dark stain seen in the center of the small frame)

using a technique i made-up

and used years ago.

the small frame has a hint

the "robins egg blue" paint peeking thru

on the inside rim.

the over-all color

resembles a warm walnut color.

Lg 15" square - inside 8x8

Sm 10 1/8" square - inside 3 1/8"

the antique photo i snagged at a yard sale years

ago.

for no more than a couple bucks!

I decided to stain the

small

large

wood frames.

the medium frame

got 4 coats

robins egg

blue.

i love the color of the stain over primer!

looks totally different than it should.

and takes

for e-v-e-r

to dry this time of year!

could be a few more days.

i have the mini-fan blowing a light wind on them

as i speak.

i also have 2 tea-lite candle holders

jamie made for me.

i'll be finishing them this week.

i have ever seen!

saved from the legs of this 150+

year old work table of sorts.

i thought the above photo was a stain
until
we cut the feet off to see it's the natural color -
gorgeous!

(the sander will be hitting the white paint soon, hehe)

Jamie builds custom homes

for a living.

friday evening

i was talking with him about

some things i wanted to add to

cottonthemoment

he had mentioned

that he had some poplar wood trim/molding

on the job site

that would be tossed in to the scrap pile

(which he hates doing)

sooo...

we went to his job site on saturday

so he could show me the "scraps"

i could pick from.

while we were there

he cut some wood

added corner biscuits

glued & clamped

3 of these

they are waiting to be

sanded smooth

and

painted

before i list them in my shop.

i was playing with colors off & on last night.

i think i'll be listing all 3 as a set.

color ideas, anyone?

p.s. -

he showed me some mahogany that may be

"scrap" as well

sometime down the road.

he also showed me a "scrap" piece of granite

that was a gorgeous shade of sage green with plum specs -

i fell in LOVE!

he told me "it may be scrap"

this piece is roughly 2.4' x 4'

and

there was a chance i could have taken it home!

but i have no use for it

that i could think of

ugh!!!

I'll have to bring my camera next time we go

to his job site

so i can share some of the beautiful work that he does.

winding road.

i'm tired of dr's appt's.

physical therapy that doesn't work.

needles.

x-rays.

i can't keep
pretending

like everything
is hunky-dory.
because it's just not.
it hasn't been for many years.

i have found someone

who does myofascial massage.

but she's not set-up to take insurance.

(not that my insurance will cover, because they won't)

she's willing to work with me on a payment plan

of sorts.

as well as lowering the cost

if i go with some kind of package.

(large or small)

she's the only one i've talked to

so far

that is certified in this.

we talked for 30 minutes or so on the phone.

although it sounds like

"just what the dr. ordered"

we just can't afford it right now.

i mentioned a naturopathic dr.

ages ago, that i wanted to see

but

my doctor (of 17 years)

wouldn't give me a referral.

so i fired her ass.

how can a doctor of 17 years

who has watched me suffer

with this since

the beginning

not give me something as simple

as a referral for something

i NEED!

the doctor i see now

will give me the referral.

she says

"i think it's a good idea that you have access to alternative treatments"

so, i'm making the call-back tomorrow.

i'll continue to stay

caught-up

on my

"reads"

i just won't be posting here.

i've got a schedule in the works.

things that will improve my life

as time goes on.

if i stick to it.

today, in the car...

this past week

i decided to start tackling

with my x-large craftsman hammer

i'm not sure what i'm going to do with these

to begin with

an unfinished white.

so ...

i put the door back on.

gave it a fresh coat of

a very light gray

then a very dark gray

i've started to distress the table some.

this is the desk/sewing table from the pic above.

jamie was kind enough to take the black

paint off the top today.

the bottom got the same white

in semi-gloss.

it's my work-bench now

(or will be once it's done).

i still have to decide

if the top will be left in it's

un-finished state

something else.

**wonders why jamie never said a word about this one!**

Road Trip

2 weeks ago

we drove down to see my daughter.

she recommended this place for lunch

we had lunch in the back

near this pond

full of

mostly

gold fish.

the food was very good!

(sorry, 4got pics)

after lunch

we took a walk thru

a little near-by town.

we stopped

and got ice cream

while we were there.

walking by an antique shop

i spotted

these very cool scissors!

no idea what they would have been used for.

any ideas?

to bad

the shop was closed!

looks like he was willing to

for the scissors

but, i passed.

family.

who's still here.

who's passed on...

a family as large as mine

we rarely communicate

anymore.

1 sister & 2 brothers

have passed.

2 live out of state.

1 brother i'm not sure about.

(sad, i know)

he has always kept his distance

for reasons unknown.

4 of us live within 30 minutes of each other.

and should be connecting

MUCH

more than we do.
